What does "La salvia di berto" mean?
The apartment is located in via Altogradi, which is the name of a noble family of the 1600's.
In this road there used to be the Altogradi family palace, of the end of the XVIth cent., where the jurisconsult Lelio Altogradi used to live, and died in 1640. The family was originally from San Miniato, which at the time was under the diocese of Lucca. The Altogradi obtained the citizenship of Lucca from Paolo Guinigi, under the surname of Berto, because at the time it was 'di Berto'. It was only in 1510 that they decided to change thir surname to Altogradi.
La salvia is the actual big sage plant on the terrace.

From: Lynn O\'Donnell Date of stay: April 13-20, 2013 My son, his wife and I spent a week in Lucca that was pure delight! From our very first e-mail contact with Debora, through our arrival and departure, Debora and her colleagues answered every question, provided outstanding detailed information, gave suggestions to fit our specific wishes, and made sure every arrangement was handled perfectly! This was my first trip to Italy, second for my son and wife. We could not have been happier or more relaxed. Lucca was the perfect place to be! So much to see and do within easy walk, as well as great location for excursions to the coast! Our apartment (La Salvia di Berto) was charming... cheerful, spacious, lovely decor and every modern convenience. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace each morning, wine and cheese before dinner. We can hardly wait for a return visit and recommend Debora most highly.
Her warmth and attention to detail, along with her personal knowledge of Lucca and surrounding areas are sure to make anyone's visit as memorable as ours. Grazie mille!

From: Kathryne Edmunds Date of stay: May 2012 - one week We recently stayed in La Salvia di Berto and it was just as we expected. We have been to Lucca before in 2010 and again booked through Debora so we had no doubt that the apartment would be just what we wanted.
Debora is wonderful at her job and the apartment was spotless clean which is a very high expectation on my list. Plenty of room right in the centre of the historic centre, close to Via Fullingo the main shopping street and many bars and restaurants close by. Debora met us without any fuss and showed us to our gorgeous apartment. The apartment had everything to make our stay just perfect.
Debora has a business acquaintance call Maria who can arrange day trips for visitors. We were lucky enough to go on a day trip with Maria to Cinque Terre, a wonderful day out and Maria was very informative. Cinque Terre is fascinating with all its cliffs and agriculture, amazing how they farm on such steep slopes.
We do hope that life and time will permit us another trip to Lucca, my favourite place in Italy. Next time if we are lucky to get to Lucca we will be staying for 2 weeks as one week is not long enough. Thank you Debora and Maria hope to see you both in the not too distant future.
Regards
Kathy and John
From: Jane Oglesby Date of stay: May 2012 Loved Lucca, La Salvia di Berto was a great apartment in an excellent location. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and we particularly enjoyed the little rooftop deck, such a treat to eat dinner up there. Debora was very helpful and left us a wonderful welcome basket with fruit which lasted us the whole week and the information binder was full of good advice. We would not hesitate to rent this apartment again.
From: Kimberly M. Date of stay: September 2011, 12 / 18 Debora:
I can't thank you enough for your assistance with our stay in Lucca. It was the best part of our trip for sure. Lucca is a wonderful city located so close to everything and everywhere. It has so much to offer.
The villa we rented was superb and we would surely recommend it to any of our friends. The location is great being within the walls. The market and wine store is close which makes it so convenient! Your villa was equipped with everything we needed and then some.
Thank you again for a wonderful time!
